CAMI Assembly is Canada's first full-scale electric-vehicle manufacturing plant.
With investment support from federal and provincial governments, GM completely retooled CAMI in record time to become the global manufacturing home of the BrightDrop fully electric commercial vans. The first BrightDrop rolled off the CAMI production line in December 2022, marking a new chapter in EV production in Canada and a significant step in the fight against climate change.
GM announced in July 2023 that CAMI would build battery modules in the second half of 2024 to support the production of BrightDrop and other GM EVs. Start of production began in July 2024, with the new 400,000 square-foot facility assembling modules for production at CAMI, and other GM plants.
BrightDrop joined the Chevrolet EV portfolio in August 2024, providing customers with access to one of the industry’s largest and most extensive commercial vehicle sales and service dealer networks.
